McLean, VA, February 28, 2019 – Altamira Technologies conducted its second annual company-wide Innovation Grand Challenge, providing employees a forum to develop solutions for our customer’s real-world problems. Participants formed teams to explore and address challenges largely faced by the national security community. Finalists pitched their ideas in a Shark Tank led by Altamira’s CXOs for a chance to win the Altamira Innovation Grand Challenge trophy, bragging rights, and the funding to advance their project. This year’s highly competitive challenge included projects in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Cyber Security, Risk Management, Meteorological Prediction, and Software Engineering.
“For the second year, Altamira innovators brought ideas with tremendous market potential to our annual Innovation Challenge,” said Rod Fontecilla, SVP and Chief Technology Officer at Altamira. “Ultimately, the selection committee chose two impressive teams with complementary solutions that will advance our offerings related to imagery analysis and machine learning.”
The winning teams, Vampire Bats and Infrared Deep Learning with PI, will both receive funding to bring their ideas to market. Vampire Bats presented a machine learning technique that processes low light images and corrects the intensity and color so that the resulting image appears to have been taken in standard lighting conditions. Infrared Deep Learning with PI aims to develop a lightweight infrared object detection and recognition platform capable of collecting and tracking data in real time.
Congratulations Team Vampire Bats (Rich Burns, Bart Bischoff, Mikaela Bingle, and Paul Bergman) and Team Infrared Deep Learning with PI (Aaron Madaris and Josh Myers)!
